I was moved last week by my daughter-in-law’s comment on the passing of her devoted mother. She quoted President Abraham Lincoln who said, «All I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.» Presidents’ Day is a call to remember who we are. It is a call to remember and appreciate those imperfect men of American history who have made it possible for us to live as we do, enjoy the freedoms we have and to be citizens of the greatest country of all time.
If you are like me, you can feel the anger building up, your heart beating faster than normal, your palms beginning to sweat or you might even have tears in your eyes. How do you think your reaction would be if the person showed up right now? Would you be genuinely smiling and excited? Or would you feel like throwing a punch or try to completely avoid them. On the other hand, would you easily dismiss it as write my essay today? The truth is, you are more likely to react negatively because of how you are feeling right now. Not so much, how you plan to react logically. Feelings determine our major actions. The same is true for positive feelings.
Before discussing the tragic flaw or hamartia of Hamlet, it is better to know something about the word ‘hamartia’ used by Aristotle in his work, ‘ The Poetics’. According to him, the tragic hero is not perfect, and misfortune falls on him by some fault of his own. Aristotle uses the Greek word, ‘Hamartia’. Its root meaning is, ‘ missing the mark’. A.C. Bradley translates it, ‘tragic flaw’. Aristotle uses it, ‘error of judgment’. Hamartia is not moral imperfection but it is an error of judgment whether it is arising from ignorance of some material fact or from rashness and impulsiveness of temper or from some passion. The hero commits various errors in series which seem unknown to him. At last, they create very strange situation that leads the hero to his catastrophe.
Sir C. Y. Twombly was born in 1928 in Lexington, Virginia, the United States. Twombly studied art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (1947-49); the Art Students League, New York (1950-51); and Black Mountain College in North Carolina (1951-52). During mid 1950s, Twombly received a grant from Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. He traveled to Europe and Africa thereof. During his travels, Twombly found prominence among some veteran artists working in New York, including the likes of Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns. In 1959, Twombly settled down forever in Italy. He held several one-man international exhibitions and was especially appreciated in both, Europe and America.
But even though UM’s first Black Studies class was taught by a white man, the racists on campus still howled in protest. They argued loud and long that if «the blacks» (and they used another term that I won’t repeat here) had Black Comics studies, why not have White Studies? Of course, much of the class was taken up with the history of whiteness in America. Black people sure didn’t invent The Strange Career of Jim Crow described by historian C. Vann Woodward (one of the texts that Dr. Carter assigned to us).
Those once strong, vigorous nations have long since become completely destroyed or absorbed into some other group. Today no distinct Edomite, Ammonite, Moabite, or Philistine exists. Not a trace of them can be identified in modern populations. Obadiah, and Zephaniah’s chilling predictions have become indisputable facts of history. Now contrast those dismal prophecies for Edom, Moab, Ammon, and Philistine to the reassuring long range forecast for Israel.
As far as a brief strategic presentation. define the problem/opportunity (don’t use words like ‘drive sales’; talk plainly — ‘people think our shoes fall apart’). Find an insight to exploit (an insight being an ‘unspoken human truth’ — ie saying ‘mums are time-poor’ is not insightful; saying ‘mums are time-poor because being busy makes them feel better about themselves’ — completely made up — is more poignant). Show any consumer research you’ve done — show video, show consumer quotes. Then tell them what the strategy is. Again, talk plainly. Avoid words like ’empowerment’, ‘enrich’, those fluffy marketing Poetics that nobody really understands. That’s unaccountable strategy. Say it in a sentence (a ‘to/by’ format is sometimes useful).
Thirdly, you should make the minimum payment on time. If not, you should take steps to settle the debts as early as possible. If you are not in a position to make minimum payment, chance of improving your credit history will go down very quickly.
Most people do not have the patience and faith that their hard work will pay off. They want instant success and instant results. Once they don’t get it, they think that they lack the talent and give up. So they never become great in anything!
At the end of the day, if you try to copy John Grisham’s style and it doesn’t come off well, you’re wasting your time. Don’t even let anyone know you like the author! Stay true to your own way of interpreting things and the way you write.
Another idea to get kids interested in history is history card games. History card games can encourage kids to learn about different history subjects. They usually contain game cards, numbered die, and questions in form of trivia or multiple choice. There are card games for all levels and they can keep kids interested and having fun.
